Государство в восточной части Южной Америки, граничит с [[Эквадор]]ом, [[Колумбия|Колумбией]], [[Бразилия|Бразилией]], [[Боливия|Боливией]] и [[Чили]]. В прошлом, на момент появления конкистадоров в XVI в. существовала империя инков, занимавшая территории сопредельных современных государств.

На территории [[Перу]] расположено огромное количество исторических памятников и археологических объектов, относимых официальной наукой к инкам и их предшественникам - цивилизации Норте-Чико. В данный момент на территории [[Перу]] активно развит туристическая деятельность, ведутся археологические исследования.

Ряд строений и руин выполнены посредством [[Полигональная кладка|полигональной кладки]], а также обнаруживают элементы [[Пластилиновая технология|пластилиновой технологии]]. Качество обработки камня и точность подгонки строительных блоков заставляет усомниться в авторстве инков, находившихся на момент прихода конкистадоров на этапе бронзового века. По свидетельствам испанцев, сами инки отрицали свою причастность к древним строениям, называя их авторами неких древних богов. Технологический уровень также не позволял инкам производить строительные работы подобного качества - имевшиеся бронзовые инструменты не подходят для обработки достаточно твердой разновидности базальта. К тому же инки не знали колеса и не умели использовать вьючных животных для перевозки грузов.
